This Saturday, on a cold, wet Culver cross country course, the girls competed in the Regional meet. Based on past performance, there were 6 of the 10 teams who were truly competing for the top 5 positions to advance to the Semi-State meet in New Prairie. With three teams being “locked” in (as we saw it based on past racing times), the remaining 3 teams were vying for the final two spots. Western was viewed as a long shot in making the top 5. However, with an outstanding performance from all the girls, Western took the 3rd spot on a tie breaker edging out MIC and Sectional champion Maconaquah. Individually, Nicole Hampshire was all-regional with a 9th place finish, Freshmen Taylor Walden placed 25th, Allison McMinn, Cora Johnson and Logan Buck finished in a pack at 33, 34 and 35. Sam Luginbuhl was the determining tie breaking factor placing 44th while Jama Claxton had a great showing following in at 48th place
