Multiple Teams · Girls Basketball vs West Lafayette

The Western Lady Panthers lost a hard fought battle last night against the Lady Red Devils of West Lafayette.  The Panthers had a good first quarter and ended it by trailing 12-19.  The Lady Panthers showed a lot of fight and determination, especially with very little Varsity experience.  The Lady Red Devils were able to capitalize on their own Varsity experience and take a lead of 19-36 at half time.  The Lady Panthers came out the 2nd half struggling from the field, which is the opposite of the Lady Red Devils by ending the 3rd quarter 26-44.  The Lady Panthers gave everything they had in the tank in the 4th quarter.  With obvious signs of fatigue, the girls could not fight out of the hole finishing the game 30-61.   Leading scorers for the Panthers were:  Connolly 8pts, Harding 6pts, Campbell 5pts.  The girls will travel to McCutcheon Thursday

The JV Lady Panthers opened up their season at home last night against the Red Devils of West Lafayette. The panthers got off to a slow start, getting down 11pts to open the game. But, after a quick timeout, they clawed back into it and ended the quarter down 18-9. The panthers settled in on both ends of the floor playing solid team defense and patient offense taking it to the half down twelve. The second half continued to be a defensive struggle, with 6 total points scored in the 3rd quarter. The panthers cranked up the pressure in the fourth with a full court press, but fell a little short with the final score of 43-27. Western was led on both ends of the floor by freshman Tessa Sanders with 10pts and 8 rebounds, and also got a very nice effort off the bench from fellow freshman Bre Shelby who add 9 points of her own. Western travels to McCutcheon Thursday night, and will be home to host Frankfort this Saturday.
